We’ll be planting a larger number of native, nut- and berry-producing shrubs, including elderberry, nannyberry, serviceberry, and American hazelnut. We’ll also add a few new fruit trees and care for existing ones by hand-pulling weeds, replacing trunk protectors, and repairing fences. In addition, we’ll plant honeyberry shrubs and grapevines.
The meet up location for each work day will be at the trailhead at Duke and Banfil by the Superior Senior Living Cottages. Participants should wear sturdy shoes, work gloves, and long sleeves. They should also bring their own water bottles and snacks unless noted. All necessary tools will be provided.
Little Bohemia Food Forest Walk and Learn Event
June 11 | 6:00pm -7:30PM
Location: meet at the trailhead at the corner of Duke and Banfil
If you've been wanting to learn more about our community food forest or are thinking about getting involved, please join us! On this guided walk, you'll learn about the history of this project and see where we've planted fruit and berry producing trees and shrubs. In addition to plant identification, we'll talk about harvesting fruits and berries from the forest and how neighborhood volunteers can help! The food forest is a 100% volunteer driven effort and we need help weeding, watering, and caring for the trees. This event is a great way to get connected.
Following the short walk, we will host a picnic at Pleasant Place. Beverages and food from Tavial Grill will be provided. Please RSVP so we know how much food to order and how many chairs to bring. This is a family friendly event and all are welcome to attend!
RSVP by 4pm on Tuesday, June 9th. https://forms.gle/2bJZuByUPXHEt7bt5
