Revitalize West 7th Grant Program

2025 Fall Grant Round

Sustainable Business Enhancements Grant: Awardee Update

The West 7th/Fort Road Federation is excited to share the first round of awardees for the Sustainable Business Enhancements Grant, part of our Revitalize West 7th Program. This grant helps locally owned businesses invest in energy-efficient upgrades that reduce operating costs while supporting a healthier, more resilient West 7th corridor.

With funding from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, the following West 7th businesses received grants:

  • White Squirrel Bar – installation of solar panels

  • Tavial Grill – upgrades to a high-efficiency walk-in refrigeration system

  • Emerald Lounge – installation of new energy-efficient windows

  • 7th Street Barbers – installation of new energy-efficient windows

“These projects support both small businesses and our neighborhood climate goals,” said Executive Director Julia McColley. “By investing in energy-saving improvements, we’re helping local businesses thrive while strengthening the long-term sustainability of West 7th.”

The Sustainable Business Enhancements Grant provides up to $10,000 per business for eligible improvements such as energy-efficient equipment, renewable energy installations, and building upgrades.

Stay tuned for our next round of the Revitalize West 7th Program coming Spring 2026

Next spring, we will prioritize facade improvement projects that:

  • Improve the exterior of commercial buildings
  • Enhance the public realm, including the public right-of-way, public areas, and private open spaces such as patios
  • Demonstrate thoughtful, durable design, with all capital improvements permanently affixed and intended to last seven years or more

Eligible Area

Commercial properties and projects located within District 9 (the West 7th/Fort Road Federation neighborhood) are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to businesses that have not previously received STAR funding, as well as those that increase job opportunities.

Eligible Uses & Funding Amount

Grant funds may be used for exterior improvements, as well as enhancements to the public right-of-way, public spaces, and private open spaces. The maximum award per application is $10,000.
